Ingredients:

- 4 slices of good quality white bread
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 4-6 slices of cheese (e.g., Gruyere, aged Emmental, Havarti)
- 6-8 slices of good ham (thicker slices preferred)
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- A pinch of mustard powder
- A pinch of cayenne pepper
- Salt to taste
- Butter for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- Strawberry or raspberry jam for serving

Instructions:

1. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, mustard powder, cayenne pepper, and salt.
2. Mix the mayonnaise and mustard together, then spread this mixture on one side of each slice of bread.
3. Layer the cheese and ham between two slices of bread, with the mayonnaise-mustard side facing inward.
4. Dip each sandwich in the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are coated.
5. Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat and fry the sandwiches until golden brown on both sides and the cheese has melted.
6. Dust the finished sandwiches with powdered sugar and serve with jam on the side.
