Ingredients:
- 2 large eggs
- 1½ teaspoons baking soda
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
1. In a bowl, crack the eggs and whisk them until combined.
2. Add the baking soda, buttermilk, flour, and sugar to the eggs and mix quickly until you have a smooth batter.
3. Heat the oil in a deep pot to about 350°F (180°C).
4. Using a tablespoon, scoop out portions of the batter and carefully drop them into the hot oil.
5. Fry the doughnuts until they are golden brown on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
6. Remove the cooked doughnuts with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
