A delicious combination of sweet cherries and a flaky pie crust, this classic American dessert is perfect for special occasions or as a treat on a regular day. Preparation Time: 1 hour
Serving Size: 8 servings
Ingredients:
- 500 g fresh cherries or 1 can of cherry filling
- 200 g sugar
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 prepared pie crust (such as puff pastry)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions:
1. If using fresh cherries, wash and halve them, removing the pits. If using canned cherries, drain them well.
2. In a bowl, combine cherries, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, vanilla sugar, and salt. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes.
3. Place the pie crust into a pie dish and pour the cherry mixture over the crust.
4. Cover the pie with another pie crust or create a decorative topping.
5. Brush the top of the pie with the beaten egg.
6. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for about 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
7. Allow the pie to cool before serving.
