A delightful holiday treat, these traditional Finnish gingerbread cookies are perfect for sharing with friends and family! Preparation Time: 1 hour (including chilling time)
Serving Size: Approximately 30 cookies
Ingredients:
- 200 g butter
- 1 dl sugar
- 1 dl syrup
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp ginger
- 1 tsp cloves
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 dl cream cheese
- 5 dl all-purpose flour
- 1 dl sugar (for decoration)
- Decorations (e.g., sprinkles, sugar pearls)
Instructions:
1. Melt the butter in a saucepan and add the sugar, syrup, and spices. Heat the mixture over low heat until the sugar dissolves.
2. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the mixture cool slightly. Stir in the cream cheese until well combined.
3. In a separate bowl, mix the flour and baking soda. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, kneading until a smooth dough forms.
4. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least half an hour.
5. Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F). Roll out the dough to about 5 mm thick and cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters.
6. Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in the oven for about 8-10 minutes, until lightly golden brown.
7. Allow the cookies to cool before decorating.
8. Prepare your decorations and pipe or sprinkle them onto the cookies as desired.
9. Let the decorations dry before serving.
