A traditional Finnish Christmas dish that is succulent and flavorful.
Preparation Time: 2 hours 30 minutes
Serving Size: 10-12 servings
Ingredients:
- 1 Christmas ham (approximately 4-6 kg)
- 2 tablespoons mustard
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 dl breadcrumbs
- 2-3 bay leaves
- 5-6 whole allspice berries
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F).
2. Remove any skin from the ham and pat the surface dry with paper towels.
3. In a bowl, mix the mustard and honey together. Brush this mixture evenly over the surface of the ham.
4. Sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly on top of the ham.
5. Place the bay leaves, allspice berries, salt, and black pepper on top of the ham.
6. Place the ham on a baking tray and roast in the oven for about 1.5 to 2 hours per kilogram, until the internal temperature reaches at least 75°C (165°F).
7. Allow the ham to rest for 20-30 minutes before slicing.
8. Serve at the Christmas table with potatoes, rutabaga casserole, and red cabbage.
