A delicious Italian flatbread, perfect for sharing or as a side dish.
Preparation time: 2 hours 30 minutes
Serving size: 8 servings
Ingredients:
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 2 dl warm water
- 1 packet (7 g) dry yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- Sea salt flakes (for topping)
- Fresh herbs (such as rosemary or thyme) (optional)
Instructions:
1. In a bowl, dissolve the dry yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
2. Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until the dough comes together.
3. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it is elastic and smooth.
4. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
5. Grease a baking sheet with olive oil and pour the dough onto it. Spread the dough evenly across the sheet.
6. Use your fingers to make deep dimples in the surface of the dough.
7. Sprinkle sea salt flakes and fresh herbs on top.
8. Allow the dough to rise again for about 20-30 minutes.
9. Preheat the oven to 220°C (428°F) and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the focaccia is golden brown.
10. Let it cool slightly before serving.
