A delicious and easy-to-make pickled herring that is perfect for special occasions or everyday meals. Preparation Time: 30 minutes + 24 hours marinating time
Serving Size: 10 servings
Ingredients
- 10 pieces of salted herring - 3/4 cup water
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed allspice
- 1/4 cup vinegar
- 1 onion, sliced into rings
Instructions
1. Rinse the salted herring thoroughly and remove the head, entrails, and backbone. 2. Roll the herring and place them at the bottom of a glass jar.
3. Add the onion rings on top of the herring.
4. In a bowl, prepare the pickling liquid by mixing water, sugar, crushed allspice, and vinegar.
5. Pour the pickling liquid over the herring and onions, making sure everything is submerged.
6. Seal the jar tightly and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours before serving.
