A flavorful grilled leek dish with a sweet teriyaki glaze. Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Serving Size: 4 servings
Ingredients:
- Leeks, enough for grilling
- Salt
- Oil for frying
- Bamboo skewers
Teriyaki Sauce:
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons sake
- 1 cup soy sauce
- Cornstarch (for thickening)
Instructions:
1. In a saucepan, bring water to a boil and dissolve the sugar in it.
2. Add sake and soy sauce, then let the mixture simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes.
3. For a thicker sauce, mix cornstarch with cold water and add it to the sauce, stirring until it thickens.
4. Cut the leeks into 10-15 cm pieces and grill them in an oven preheated to 250°C (482°F) for about 15 minutes.
5. Allow the leeks to cool, then slice them diagonally into 2-3 cm thick pieces.
6. Skewer the leek pieces onto bamboo skewers.
7. Drizzle teriyaki sauce over the leeks and sprinkle with salt.
8. Roast the leeks in the oven, turning occasionally, until the sugar caramelizes on the surface.
9. Serve immediately on their own or as a side dish to a good meat.
