Ingredients:
- 200 g butter
- 250 g sugar
- 4 eggs
- 300 g all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp ginger
- 0.5 tsp cloves
- 0.5 tsp nutmeg
- 100 ml milk
- 100 ml syrup (e.g., dark syrup)
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and flour a cake pan.
2. In a bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
4. In another bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and spices.
5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk and syrup. Mix until smooth.
6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
7. Bake in the oven for about 40-50 minutes or until the cake is done (test with a toothpick).
8. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
