A classic British dish featuring crispy battered fish and golden fries. Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Serving Size: 2 servings
Ingredients:
- 500 g white fish (e.g., cod or haddock)
- 200 g potatoes
- 100 g all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 100 ml cold water
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 100 ml oil for frying
- Lemon wedges for serving
- Extra salt for serving
Instructions:
1. Peel and cut the potatoes into fries. Boil the fries in salted water for about 5 minutes, then drain.
2. Heat the oil in a pan or deep fryer.
3. In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Add the cold water and stir until a smooth batter forms.
4. Dip the fish fillets into the batter and fry in the hot oil until golden brown and crispy.
5. Fry the potato fries in the oil until they are golden brown.
6. Serve the fish and chips with lemon wedges and extra salt to taste.
