A traditional Finnish fish pie filled with delicious vendace and onions. Perfect for a cozy meal! Preparation Time: 1 hour
Serving Size: 4
Ingredients:
- 500 g vendace
- 2 dl rye flour
- 1 dl wheat flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1.5 dl water
- 1 onion
- 50 g butter or margarine
Instructions:
1. Peel and chop the onion.
2. In a bowl, mix the rye flour, wheat flour, and salt.
3. Add water to the flour mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms.
4. Divide the dough in half and roll both portions into flat circles.
5. Spread the vendace and chopped onion on one dough circle.
6. Place small pieces of butter or margarine on top of the fish.
7. Cover the filling with the second dough circle and press the edges firmly to seal.
8. Bake the muikkukukko in the oven at 200°C (392°F) for about 30-40 minutes, until the top is beautifully golden brown.
9. Let it cool for a moment before serving. Enjoy!
