A moist and flavorful black-eyed bean dhal that perfectly complements an Indian-style meal. This recipe is easy to prepare and offers a delicious taste experience. Preparation Time: 1 hour (plus soaking time)
Serving Size: 4-6 servings
Ingredients:
- 225 g black-eyed beans - 900 ml water (for soaking)
- 60 ml oil
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp black mustard seeds
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp ground chili
- 1 tsp ground coriander seeds
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 2 tsp tomato paste
- 600 ml water (for cooking)
- Fresh coriander, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
1. Soak the black-eyed beans overnight in water and rinse them well. Check for any small stones.2. Heat the oil in a pan or pot until hot. Add the cumin and mustard seeds to the oil and let them sizzle for a few seconds until they start popping.
3. Add the soaked beans, salt, turmeric, chili, ground coriander, ground cumin, and tomato paste. Mix well and sauté the mixture for a couple of minutes, stirring constantly.
4. Add 600 ml of water and simmer on low heat for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
5. Garnish the dish with fresh coriander before serving.
