A delicious British classic, Welsh rarebits are toast topped with a rich cheese sauce. Perfect for a cozy meal! Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Serving Size: 4 servings
Ingredients:
- 200 g cheddar cheese
- 50 g butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 100 ml milk
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 4 slices of bread
- Paprika (for garnish)
Instructions:
1. Grate the cheddar cheese and set aside.
2. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
3. Add the flour to the melted butter and stir until smooth.
4. Gradually pour in the milk, stirring continuously until thickened.
5. Stir in the grated cheddar, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper until the cheese has melted.
6. Toast the slices of bread and place them on a baking sheet.
7. Spread the cheese mixture evenly over the toasted bread.
8. Grill the bread in the oven at 200°C (400°F) for about 5-7 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
9. Sprinkle paprika on top before serving.
10. Serve warm with a good British ale.
