A comforting Finnish pork dish, perfect for family dinners. Preparation Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Serving Size: 4 servings
Ingredients:
- 500 g pork belly slices
- 1 onion
- Salt
- Allspice
- Black pepper (if needed)
- Bay leaf (optional)
- Water
Instructions:
1. Allow the pork belly slices to sit at room temperature for about 1 hour before cooking.
2. Heat a pan and sear the pork slices in small batches until they are browned. Transfer the browned slices to a pot.
3. Chop the onion into coarse wedges and add it to the pot with the pork.
4. Add allspice and the bay leaf, if using, to the pot.
5. Rinse the frying pan with water and pour the water over the meat in the pot. Add enough water to cover the meat.
6. Add salt and simmer on low heat for about 1 hour.
7. Taste and adjust with black pepper and more salt if needed.
8. Serve with peeled potatoes.
