Delicious layered pastries filled with berry jam and creamy custard, topped with icing and chocolate. Preparation Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Serving Size: 8 servings
Ingredients:
- 500 g puff pastry
- 200 g berry jam (e.g. raspberry or strawberry)
- 300 ml milk
- 50 g sugar
- 40 g cornstarch
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar
- 50 ml rum (optional)
- 100 g powdered sugar
- 50 g dark chocolate (for decoration)
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).
2. Roll out the puff pastry into a thin sheet and cut it into three equal rectangles.
3. Bake the pastry pieces in the oven for about 15-20 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Let them cool.
4. Prepare the custard: Heat the milk in a saucepan. In a bowl, mix the sugar, cornstarch, egg yolks, and vanilla sugar. Gradually add the hot milk into the mixture and pour it back into the saucepan.
5. Heat the mixture over low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens. If using, add the rum and let it cool.
6. Assemble the pastries: Place the first layer of puff pastry on a serving plate, spread berry jam on top, and then add a layer of custard. Repeat the layers.
7. Top the pastries with the final layer of puff pastry.
8. Prepare the icing: Mix powdered sugar with a splash of water and spread it over the pastries. Melt the dark chocolate and drizzle it over the pastries for decoration.
9. Allow the pastries to chill in the refrigerator for at least one hour before serving.
