Delicious Finnish jam-filled doughnuts, perfect for Vappu celebrations! Soft and sweet, they are best enjoyed fresh.
Preparation Time: 1 hour
Serving Size: About 12 doughnuts

Ingredients:

- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 50 g sugar
- 25 g fresh yeast
- 200 ml milk
- 1 egg
- 100 ml melted butter
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cardamom
- 300 g jam (e.g., strawberry or raspberry)
- 1 liter frying oil
- Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions:

1. Dissolve the yeast in warm milk and add sugar. Let the mixture bubble for about 10 minutes.
2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and cardamom.
3. Add the yeast mixture, egg, and melted butter to the flour mixture. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
4. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes.
5. Roll the dough to about 1.5 cm thick and cut out round pieces.
6. Place a teaspoon of jam in the center of each piece and shape the dough into round doughnuts.
7. Let the doughnuts rise for another 15 minutes.
8. Heat the oil in a pot to about 175-180 degrees Celsius.
9. Fry the doughnuts a few at a time until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
10. Transfer the doughnuts to paper towels to drain. Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar.
